Don't fall victim to SCAMS!
"You get what you pay for"

Low Rates

What they may signify but not in all cases.

What you need to be aware of

  • Bait and Switch. Attract you with a low rate then surprise you with bigger fees for problems that were never there to begin with.
  • Low labor rates but they get you on parts.
  • Is it insured? Ask!
  • Is it licensed? Ask!
  • Are they just starting and looking to gain experience by experimenting on my equipment? Ask what experience they may have.
  • Are they likely to install non-genuine software like Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office?
  • As with anyone, would your top of the line parts be replaced with lower end ones?
  • Write down serial #'s.
  • Get everything in writing.

You get what you pay for thus ...

  • Will they likely be around next week, next month or next year? If not, kiss any warranties good bye.
  • Will you be ignored after you have paid?
  • Should you expect great service if the incentive is really low to begin with?
  • Can you trust a shop with no references with your confidential files, pictures, passwords, internet activity?

By no means do we say that low rates ALWAYS signify the above.

High Rates

What they may signify but not in all cases.

What do you get for your money?

  • You may have your PC serviced out of state especially laptop repairs.
  • Need fast service? Wait at least 1 week.
  • You may have your files perused through as with any shop but have been notably published on "The Consumerist".
  • Be sold other services or products you don't really need.

You get what you pay for thus ...

  • You get to see them drive in fancy cars. This benefits you how?
  • A big % of your fee covers their overhead. This benefits you how?
  • Do they have real incentive to protect my data or equipment?
  • If you have questions will you be able to talk to the tech who worked on your equipment?

You can great service at such places but as see on THE CONSUMERIST, a few techs just don't have real incentive.
