Be on the Lookout for the following Computer Repair Scams
Scam #1:
Your PC supposedly cannot be repaired so the technician manages to sell you one on the spot for dirt cheap.
Scam #2:
Your quality parts get replaced with lower quality ones.
Scam #3:
Software installed is not licensed, mainly Windows or Office suites.
Scam #4:
Wiping or reinstalling Windows on your PC.
- A technicians job is to troubleshoot the problem, to find out what caused the problem. The LAST resort is to do a system wipe known as nuke and pave. A real technician troubleshoots.
Scam #5:
Free Diagnostics. What some would call bait and switch. Remember, no such thing as a free lunch. Not to say that there are some legitimate Free Diagnostic services. But always read the fine print before you sign anything.
Scam #6:
Online Repairs. Who is really on the other end? Once they have your Credit Card information there is no turning back. There are some legitimate on-line repair shops but how do you know?
